??????????? การเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่มีการช่วยกันส่งเสริมและสนับสนุนในหลายๆ ทาง แต่หลังคลอด คำแนะนำต่างๆ ที่หลากหลายจากหลายๆ ด้าน ครอบครัว เพื่อน และบุคลากรทางการแพทย์อาจทำให้มารดาสับสนและพลาดการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ไปได้ มีการศึกษาการใช้การแนะนำที่บ่งบอกว่า ?เมื่อคุณเกิด คุณไม่ควรอยู่โดยปราศจากแม่” (When you give birth you will not be without your mother)1 ให้แก่มารดาที่คลอดลูกคนแรกโดยช่วยส่งเสริมการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ได้ สิ่งนี้บ่งบอกว่า การที่มารดาได้อยู่กับทารก ความสัมพันธ์ผูกพัน สายใยที่เชื่อมโยงจะนำไปสู่การให้นมแม่และความพยายามจะฝ่าฟันอุปสรรคที่จะขัดขวางการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ การอยู่ด้วยกันกับลูกจะทำให้มารดาเข้าใจ ทราบถึงลักษณะอาการที่ลูกต้องการสื่อสาร ไม่ว่าจะหิว อิ่ม ปัสสาวะหรืออุจจาระ ซึ่งเป็นสายใยตามธรรมชาติที่เกิดผ่านฮอร์โมนแห่งความรัก (oxytocin) ที่เปิดโอกาสในการสร้างทารกที่มีสุขภาพร่างกายที่แข็งแรงและจิตใจที่อ่อนโยนผ่านกระบวนการกินนมแม่
