? ? ? ? ? ? ?ความตั้งใจหรือความคาดหวังในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ เป็นหนึ่งในปัจจัยที่สำคัญโดยหากมารดามีความตั้งใจหรือความคาดหวังจะเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่เป็นระยะเวลานาน พบว่าสามารถเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ได้นานกว่า1-3 โดยหากมารดาทำสำเร็จมารดาจะรู้สึกพึงพอใจเกินกว่าที่คาดไว้ แต่หากคาดหวังแล้วไม่ประสบความสำเร็จตามความตั้งใจในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ มารดาจะรู้สึกไม่พึงพอใจในระยะเวลาในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่3

? ? ? ? ? ? สำหรับปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อความตั้งใจในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ ได้แก่ ความเครียด ความวิตกกังวลและอาการซึมเศร้าในระยะฝากครรภ์จะเป็นตัวทำนายความตั้งใจที่จะเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่4,5 นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ความใส่ใจต่อข้อแนะนำในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่อย่างเดียวหกเดือน6 ทัศนคติที่ดีต่อการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ ประวัติการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ในครรภ์ก่อน และการสนับสนุนจากสามีมีความสัมพันธ์ต่อความตั้งใจที่จะเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ด้วย7

? ? ? ? ? ? ?ดังนั้น การที่บุคลากรสนับสนุนปัจจัยต่างๆ ที่ส่งเสริมความตั้งใจในการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่ นอกจากจะมีผลดีต่อระยะเวลาการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่แล้ว จะทำให้มารดามีความพึงพอใจในระยะเวลาการเลี้ยงลูกด้วยนมแม่เกินกว่าที่คาดไว้ได้
